Rapid Response to Movements of Populations
A tool to disseminate information about the changes in population movements in the East of the DRC
the project
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is the world’s most neglected displacement crisis according to the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) annual list, due to overwhelming needs and an acute lack of funding, as well as media and diplomatic inattention.
Multiple conflicts in eastern parts of the country have escalated, forcing 6,000 people to flee their homes every day last year, making it the crisis with the largest number of new displacements due to conflict in the world.
UNICEF needed to create an online centralised information point using real time data and interactive maps to bring together information from the many partner organisations involved with the initiative.
our approach
Using a WordPress backend, connected to a real time mapping server, we built a single page point of entry to access all information about the ongoing conflicts.
While the primary sources of content to be displayed were in English, it was vital that the Program was available in both English and French. To accomplish this we used WPML (WordPress Multilingual), a suite of tools allowing teams to prepare and manage multiple language versions of a project.
